As the name suggests the Northern Deer Management Group is situated in the Far North of Scotland. The boundary follows the river Helmsdale to the South, the River Naver to the West, The Coast to the North and the Coast for part of the East before turning North at Latheron and following the A9 ‘Causewaymire’ to Halkirk. The lowland part of Caithness to the East is not part of the group area.

The land is dominated by the Flow Country and is generally gently sloping with only two ‘mountainous’ areas, the Ben Griams near Kinbrace and the Morven / Scaraben Massif in the South East corner of Caithness. Much of the land is designated and the group contains the largest part of the Flow Country
